The University of California (UC) Community Safety Plan is a comprehensive approach to ensuring the safety and security of the UC community. The plan aims to transform the university's culture, policies, and practices to ensure that every member of the community feels welcomed, respected, and protected from harm. It includes a focus on community-driven safety, a holistic and inclusive approach to safety services, transparency and continuous improvement through data, and accountability and independent oversight.
UC San Diego is embracing the Social Determinants of Health and the 8 Dimensions of Wellness to guide a multidisciplinary approach to safety based on shared responsibility. The Community Safety programs and spaces serve as a gateway for the re-envisioning of safety in a culturally responsive manner and taking action to address the challenges of community health and safety response that we collectively face.
At UC San Diego, transparency and continuous improvement through data is supported locally by the efforts of staff, faculty and students alike whose actions, advocacy and dedication to equity and inclusion through service support continual progress towards a safe and supportive UC San Diego. These commitments include budgetary reallocations across multiple departments to expand support for programs that increase access to culturally responsive, trauma-informed resources in the areas of student mental health and wellbeing, physical and interpersonal safety, and environmental safety and security. To connect with the campus support system, visit the Resources page.
The UC Community Safety Plan creates standards for UC campuses, including the UC San Diego Police Department, to collect and publicly share data on campus safety and to develop systemwide dashboards on various topics. The UC San Diego Police Department contributes campus-level data to these systemwide dashboards to provide transparency on their policies, procedures, budget and activity. The University of California Office of the President manages the six individual data dashboards that can be viewed at the links below:
