Holistic and Inclusive Tiered Response at UC San Diego
UC San Diego is moving to sustain a holistic, tiered resource portfolio that meets the UC Community Safety Plan goals. This holistic approach includes mental health, wellness, basic needs, bias/hate response, law enforcement, emergency response and other services through cross-campus collaborations. Matching calls for support with the appropriate resource, multidisciplinary crisis teams are available to triage behavioral health crises, conduct wellness checks and safely connect individuals to coordinated care.
All employees in the campus safety system, including sworn and non-sworn police personnel, counselors and clinicians, and general safety providers, are trained in inclusive and respectful service. Campus safety personnel receive regular training in verbal de-escalation, non-violent crisis intervention, lawful use of force, cultural competency and anti-racism.
